Monk - The Entire Season Number 1

December 20th, 2005

Monk is one of the few shows I actually watch on the television any more. If you are not familiar with Monk, he is a pretty whacked out, obsessive-compulsive detective. Tony Shalhoub plays the main character and is already an Emmy and Golden Globe winner for the part. Monk is a former detective who was with the San Francisco police but is now a private investigator. He kind of wigged out after the death of his wife and became a bit unstable to be a police detective. Just the right premise for a great TV Show and now downloadable TV!

I think Monk is a riot. The interaction between Monk, his assistant, currently named Natalie but Sharona in earlier episodes, and Captain Stottlemeyer are a hoot. There are a few other supporting cast members who have been hilarious as well in a given episode.

If you already have iTunes you can go to the TV Shows section of the iTunes Music Store and download individual episodes for $1.99 or, currently the Entire Season 1 for $25.87. There are 9 episodes from the current season 4 run.

If you don’t already have iTunes, you can get it here.

Below Ground Surface - Compressed News and Commercials

December 19th, 2005

I’ve always avoided network news because of the mostly negative slant and the few good news stories always come off to me as tripe.

Below Ground Surface exposes the scaremongering and drives the point home by compressing 30-minute network news shows into 1 to 2 minutes. Interesting concept.

They take shots at commercials as well!

Also a DTV Channel.

Participatory Culture Foundation’s DTV- Internet TV and Broadcast Machine

December 16th, 2005

These are two different software pieces to help you manage subscriptions to video podcasts (Internet TV) and to publish your content on the web.

DTV - Internet TV is a free and open-source platform for internet television and video. The interface lets users subscribe to channels, watch video, and build a video library. The project is non-profit, free and open source, and built on open standards. The Mac Beta version of DTV is available now and a Windows version of DTV will arrive in the next several weeks.
A cool feature is the built-in DTV Channel Guide, which already features more than 100 internet TV channels (all free), with more being added every day. Publishers of DTV-compatible channels can now submit channels to be included in the guide. If you have an RSS feed with video enclosures, your channel is already compatible. This beta version of DTV embeds QuickTime 7, so any video that plays in QuickTime will play in DTV. DTV suppports standard HTTP downloads as well as BitTorrent downloads.

The second piece of the puzzle is called Broadcast Machine. It is software you install on your server to publish video podcasts and create Internet TV channels. The option of BitTorrent technology can help you spread the bandwidth required by large video files over many servers. One of the features I really like is that Broadcast Machine will allow you to create TV Channels that use content from other producers. You can become an aggregator using links to video from all over the place. You can create your own channel by pulling together videos you find around the internet. Prepare your own format with funny videos, news clips, movie trailers, or whatever you want.

I am just getting into this so I’ll keep ya posted.

GabeB and Gabemac’s XOLO TV

December 16th, 2005

Watch Me at XOLO TV. This is a video podcast that has a couple of elements. A talk-show style conversation and on the scene interviews focusing on influential people in the video blogging and video podcast space.

I like the on scene interview style and the production quality and creativity is really good. What you get out of it will depend on how much this particular space interests you but it is worth checking out just to see how the pieces are edited. Very cool!

Tiki Bar TV

December 15th, 2005

With a tagline like “Forbidden Cocktails in a Swank Pad” you know this is going to be fun! Each 5-minuteish vidoe episode showcases a specific drink of the alcohol variety along with what at least I think is a bit of a clever back story to the reason the drink needs to be made in the first place and consumed.

Some recent Drink/Episodes include:

  • Red Oktober
  • Suffering Bastard
  • Hulla Balloo
  • London Fogcutter

This is an Explicit show adults having fun and such just so ya know! Not that that should stop ya!
